I turn green wood using a pole-lathe, an ingeniously designed pedal-powered lathe most commonly known as a tool used 'back in the day' for making Windsor chair legs before the days of powered lathes — see www.bodgers.org.uk for more information. Carved items are made using an axe, a knife and a special hooked knife for carving out spoon bowls. I use a variety of woods for these items such as beech, cherry, maple, sycamore, rowan, ash and yew depending on availability and suitability.
